At this time of year the weather is obviously a constraint, but with the
exception of a few days of snow the previous week, it was relatively mild
and this meant that some good progress was made. An important
discovery dating a part of the house also came to light (see below).
Cottage 2
The two bedrooms on the second floor. In the picture on the right you
can see the bulge of the chimney breast coming up from the floor below.
An old partition walled bathroom has been removed from the corner of
this room.
This is the rear wall in what will be the library. It's not straight so this is being corrected so that bookcases extending to the ceiling can be fitted.

The detritus from the old floor, with
a sprinkling of January snow.

Later in the week, the replacement
beams being fitted.
Having removed the old bathroom, the floor then had to be taken out
completely, because the wooden beams were rotten. These will be
replaced with chestnut beams and a new floor will then be laid over them.
"Only I cut on the timber-only I
carved on the stone:......" This
photo is of the big discovery of the
week. While preparing the library
wall to be able to fit bookcases, the
builders have uncovered this carved
stone dating this part of the building
to 1620.
