The concentration this week has been on structural plumbing - installing
cisterns for loos in bathroom walls and on fitting drainage pipes for baths
and showers.  At the same time, the builders have been preparing external
door and window openings ready for the installation of the frames.  The
loggia stairs have also been concreted ready for the fitting of the travertina
steps.

where the boilers will be located.

On the right, the same work in the bathroom for the second bedroom.

South-facing entrances to the
main living room.
Having decided not to have a
fireplace surrounding the stufa on
the cantina floor, we have had to dig
a trench into the wall to bring the
stainless steel chimney pipe down to
the level of the stufa.  This means
the flue will exit the rear of the stufa
instead of from the top.
- or front retaining wall of the
feed troughs.  The holes you
can see were for tethering
the animals during feeding
times.  They have rounded
edges worn away from years
of use.  The boards are
chestnut, two-and-a-half
metres long, and
approximately two hundred
years old.  The intention is to
make these two into benches
to flank the stufa, so that
they stay in the original space
they occupied for so long.  We
have two more that are even
longer - three metres. The
plan right now is to mount
them both as wall shelves.
Unless anyone can come-up
with any better suggestions?
These impressive lengths of
timber came out of the
original stables on what is
now the cantina floor.
