there's still a way to go on the main house.  The external doors and
windows are fitted - and very nice they look too.  All cotto floor tiling -
internal and external - is now laid.  The internal tiles are grouted,
acid-washed and as of this weekend, soaking-up a second coat of wax
polish.  The underfloor heating is pumping, improving the colouring of the
polished cotto, but consuming euros-worth of gas faster than a Soc-Gen
trader can lose a billion.  We've got all lights working, but with bulbs
dangling out of the walls rather than inside the neat new light fittings we've
purchased from "Obi" in Corciano.

On Saturday morning, the two-man team arrived to install the three stufe -
wood burning stoves - that are going into the sitting room, reception room
and library.  No part of this restoration project can proceed without
substantial and unnecessary re-work being required, and this simple
installation was no exception.  The exhaust pipe set into the wall of the
library is too big and at the wrong height for the small stove being fitted.
So, this coming week, the pipe will have to be chased out of the plaster
and the opening moved further down the wall by about 15cms.

remove the old lining.  As the pool has been uncovered for some months,
the leafy green slime at the bottom was quite unpleasant.  Whether this
justified the full white decontamination suit donned by one of the
contractors is however, open to question.
